Environmental Educator Position Available in Honduras

Environmental Educator
Gauruma
Las Mangas, Honduras
www.gauruma.org

Gauruma seeks an Environmental Educator for a commitment of 6 months. Candidates should have experience teaching environmental studies and/or a BA/BS in a related field with experience as a mentor/tutor. Teaching is conducted in Spanish, so Spanish fluency is required. Candidates must be able to live in a small village (population 300) and ideally will have experience working on a cross-cultural team or studying/working in a foreign country. In addition to teaching, the job includes activities related to the development of ecotourism in the Cangrejal Watershed. Responsibilities of the position are at times mixed and everyone is expected to help with tasks such as cleaning, supervising people in our computer lab, chaperoning students, and interacting with visitors. Responsibilities unique to this position, however, include teaching a total of 6 classes each week, meeting with other NGOs and businesses regarding mutual projects, attending occasional festivals to help promote Guaruma, and working with Executive Director and Assistant Director on projects. The position includes a stipend of approximately $80 per month and housing.

Guaruma, a small non-profit located in Las Mangas, Honduras, offers environmental education, nature photography, computer, and English classes to local youth between the ages of 10 and 20 as part of an after-school program. Through these classes the students develop employable skills and learn to appreciate the natural beauty of the Cangrejal watershed. In the future they will become decision makers in their communities who understand the importance of environmental conservation and the potential for ecotourism in the area.

How to Apply:
Send resume as a .doc or .pdf file with a cover letter (in English or Spanish) that explains your qualifications and mentions when you could start to Executive Director Francisco CabaƱas Cadillo at info@guaruma.org and cc chris@guaruma.org. Applicants are considered on a rolling basis and may be asked to provide a list of two references.
