Duration: One or two four-week summer terms (late June through late July and late July through late August)
The Experience: The Yemen-America Language Institute (YALI) at Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies, established in 1975 by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, hires English Teachers to staff its four-week-long summer sessions. YALI is an English language institute with approximately 70 teachers and average enrollments of 2,500 students. Facilities are located in a garden-like setting and include four buildings with 40 classrooms, a self-access multi-media lab, and a 48-station computer lab. English Teachers instruct courses for teenagers aged from 10 to 17, prepare lessons plans and assessments, and develop supplemental materials and activities.
Financial Info: US$600 per session stipend (a session is made up of 4 weeks), housing, plane ticket (reimbursed up to $650 for a 1-session commitment, $1300 for a 2-session commitment), Yemeni visa, airport transfers (upon arrival and departure), laundry facilities, Internet
Eligibility: U. S. or Canadian citizenship, BA or MA in Education with ESOL certification, teaching experience in a K-12 environment, flexibility to work in a diverse and multicultural work environment, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
FYI: Classes are held Saturday through Wednesday from 8am-10:30am and 11am–1:30pm, with supplemental learning activities taking place on Thursday.
